Our churches - St Paul, Fazakerley

St Paul’s Church is in the Parish of Fazakerley, which is an extensive and densely populated area bordering
the parishes of St John the Evangelist,  Walton, St Giles with
St Peter, Aintree.
Emmanuel and St Paul’s have the joint pastoral care of
Sparrowhall (since the closure of St George’s for worship) but
St Paul’s is mainly responsible for the area of the Fazakerley
Hall Estate, Field Lane Estate and various smaller pockets of
housing development.   The life of the church began in 1928 in Costain’s discarded
builders’ hut on Lower Lane, which was bought  by Emmanuel
Parish Council.
It opened its doors on 17th June 1928 with a Sunday School of 105 children. A year later, the Diocese bought the present site on Formosa Drive adjoining Formosa Drive Primary School for £750. The church was to be dedicated to St Paul and so the hut was moved onto the site and re-named ‘St Paul’s Church Room’.  On 12th November 1930, £4,000 was donated by the Diocesan Conference from the Bishop Chavasse Jubilee Fund and building of St Paul’s began. The architect was Frederick W. Nicholson, who was also the organist and choir master at Emmanuel, and resident in Emmanuel parish. The church was dedicated on 2nd January 1932.

Since then, there have been several major changes, the latest being the creation of a Community Garden, which can be safely accessed by groups using the church hall. Currently, we hope to up-grade the interior of our church with a ramp to enable everyone to access the Communion Rail and to replace the pews with comfortable chairs to fit us for service to our community in this 21st century. It is a relatively small building with a small friendly but growing congregation. Our regular services on Sunday mornings follow a monthly pattern :-

Some of the same volunteers and others run JIFFY (Jesus is fun for you) Club on the 1st Friday of each month for 5-11+ youngsters.

Our church hall is also used for Brownies, Guides and Senior Section and currently on two days per week by Adults with specific needs and by Action for Achievement who work with Y6 upwards.
